About the Role

Leeds City Council is seeking a Music Centre Instructor to provide high-quality musical education to children and adults in the Leeds metropolitan area.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach individual or group lessons in a music centre setting, adhering to ArtForms' shared practices.
  • Be responsible for the musical progress of learners in assigned classes and groups.
  • Deliver the agreed number of hours' teaching in the music centre for 27 weeks of the year.
  • Plan and evaluate lessons with regard for the needs of all students, differentiating work as appropriate.
  • Develop resources for teaching and learning as needed.
  • Assist with enrolment and placing students in appropriate classes.
  • Promote the well-being of individual students and groups assigned to them.
  • Participate in concerts and performances in the music centre when relevant.
  • Keep students and parents informed of other opportunities provided by ArtForms and its partners.
  • Understand and implement LCC and ArtForms' safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Follow LCC and ArtForms' inclusion policies, actively promoting inclusion and equality for all.
  • Improve own practice through observation, evaluation, discussion with colleagues, and development programmes.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, knowing when to seek help and advice.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos, work, and aims of the service by attending relevant meetings, training events, and appraisal sessions.
  • Maintain personal and professional development through CPD and other activities to meet the demands of the post.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a high level of ability in the instrument being taught, knowledge of teaching that instrument family, and a broad knowledge of the teaching and learning of music. You should also possess enthusiasm to motivate learners of all abilities and a commitment to developing the centre as a whole.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will hold a qualification to Grade 8 on at least one instrument (voice) or equivalent standard. A Graduate, professional qualification, or Qualified Teacher Status would also be welcome.

Salary and Benefits

This role offers a competitive salary range of £32,909 - £36,298 (pro rata), equating to £22.30 - £24.60 contact hourly rate, plus annual leave entitlement and statutory holidays. You will also benefit from membership of the West Yorkshire Pension Fund with generous employer contributions, flexible and hybrid working arrangements, and a clear career pathway with continuing professional development opportunities.
