The Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust is seeking a dedicated conservation volunteer to join our team in Banbury. This exciting opportunity will involve working with us to preserve and maintain the Salt Way, a two-mile stretch of habitat that passes through the southern side of Banbury.

As a conservation volunteer, you will have the chance to develop your skills in areas such as plant identification, habitat management, and community engagement. You will also be contributing to the health and wellbeing of our community by helping to enhance the local environment.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about conservation and has a keen interest in the outdoors. In return, we offer a competitive salary of £25,000 per annum, plus benefits.

About the Role
  • Cut ivy off trees and shrubs adjacent to the Salt Way to reduce windblow incidents.
  • Coppice trees and shrubs to create a diverse and healthy habitat.
  • Lay hedges and create new habitats to support local wildlife.
  • Let light into areas periodically to encourage woodland flowering plants.
  • Monitor and learn about birds, butterflies, plants, reptiles, and other wildlife.
  • Report any problems on the Salt Way to ensure it remains safe and accessible.
  • Plant trees and shrubs to enhance the local environment.
  • Plant out plug plants to increase the variety of native plants and provide a nectar source for pollinators.
  • Manage grasslands by scything to encourage diversity and promote a sense of calm.
  • Build bird and bat boxes to place along the Salt Way and support local biodiversity.
