Job Summary

Brockenhurst College is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Technician - Marine/Site to join our team on a part-time, annualised hours basis at our Marchwood Site. As a Senior Technician, you will play a key role in supporting a team of technicians, maintaining the site's infrastructure, and assisting lecturing staff in the delivery of courses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support a team of technicians and provide guidance and mentoring when necessary
  • Maintain and upkeep of the Marchwood site, liaising with the estates team and external contractors as required
  • Assist lecturing staff in the delivery of courses, advising students on techniques and demonstrating safe use of tools and equipment
  • Prepare, set up, clear away, and store equipment and materials for lessons and demonstrations
  • Maintain the workshop areas in a safe and functional state
  • Issue tools and equipment in a safe condition to students and staff
  • Assist students in areas of Marine Engineering/Marine Electrical/Boatbuilding/Composites
  • Assist staff and students in the use of apparatus and equipment
  • Occasionally demonstrate machines to members of staff and students, requiring the application of acquired skills
  • Construct, maintain, fault find, repair, and service all marine equipment as necessary, and arrange repair in liaison with the Head of Curriculum
  • Assist in the development of new equipment and workshop activities
Requirements
  • Appropriate qualification in Marine Engineering – Level 3 or equivalent
  • Able to manage learners and learning effectively
  • Working knowledge of the sector either on board a ship or in a shipyard/boatyard
  • Able to develop effective learning resources to support the delivery
  • Knowledge and understanding of current developments in a relevant curriculum area, and knowledge of appropriate health and safety requirements
  • Effective communication skills
  • An effective team player
  • Evidence of working towards and achieving personal targets
  • Good administrative and organisational skills
  • Able to meet tight deadlines
  • Able to manage pressure and a range of demands
