You will have the opportunity to utilize your broad technical knowledge and experience to lead multi-discipline teams to develop detailed designs, plans, and specifications from concept to completion on a wide variety of projects. You will provide support, coaching, and training to junior colleagues as you help develop a growing team of substation engineers and consultants.

You will build relationships with existing industry experts and Project Managers within the company to ensure we deliver expert advice and expertly designed projects for our clients. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing a project execution plan for the technical aspect of projects.
  • Assigning project tasks and providing technical guidance to project team members.
  • Supporting the technical aspects of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure development and implementation, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management.
  • Coordinating and performing quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables per the HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements, processes, and procedures to deliver a world-class quality product to the client.
  • Working independently and also directing, mentoring, and training Electrical Engineers, Graduate Engineers, and Drafters/Designers.
  • Leading multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in different locations.
  • Working with senior engineers and technical leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise and attending training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to your discipline.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects of varying complexity up to 765kV preferred, including at a minimum, conceptual knowledge of physical, electrical, civil, and structural design components as well as knowledge of IEC, IEEE, ANSI, and other applicable design and equipment standards.
  • Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams, departments, technical managers, and project staff.
  • Experience using industry standard design software.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms (Zoom, WebEx, Teams, etc.).
  • Willingness to travel when required.
  • Experience with development of electrical grounding and lightning studies.
  • Experience with design of one-line, three-line, and other electrical diagrams.
  • Experience with design of physical layouts, section views, and electrical clearances.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience.
  • Professional Engineers (PE) license.
  • Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit).
