Lecturer & Director of the Monarch Accelerator Program to Engineering (MAP2E)

Job Summary:

The Frank Batten College of Engineering & Technology at Old Dominion University invites applications for a Lecturer and Director of the Monarch Accelerator Program to Engineering (MAP2E). This is an annual 12-month appointment beginning in Fall 2024.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will teach first-year classes in the Engineering Fundamentals division, including classes designed for the MAP2E cohort. They will also direct and coordinate all components of programming involved in the MAP2E program, including planning and implementing the summer transition program, coordinating with the university impact learning community staff, planning supplemental instruction, hiring, training, and managing tutors, planning and implementing enrichment programs, mentoring and advising cohort students, and collecting and analyzing data related to cohort and programmatic success.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach introductory engineering classes
  • Direct and coordinate all components of the MAP2E program
  • Plan and implement the summer transition program
  • Coordinate with the university impact learning community staff
  • Plan supplemental instruction
  • Hire, train, and manage tutors
  • Plan and implement enrichment programs
  • Mentor and advise cohort students
  • Collect and analyze data related to cohort and programmatic success
Requirements:

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to teach introductory engineering classes and a commitment to student success. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in teaching introductory engineering classes, advising students, and implementing and/or administering student success programs.
