Job Summary

The University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly motivated and clinically experienced Upper Limb Clinical Specialist to join our expanding and supportive team. As a key member of our Upper Limb department, you will be responsible for the general management of the team and service, while assisting with service expansion via development of new care pathways and business cases.

Main Duties
  • Work with current clinical specialists to provide upper limb therapy assessment and treatment for patients following trauma and elective surgery, as well as other conditions within this specialty.
  • Assist in the management of the Upper Limb therapy team/service, including service planning, reviewing, and auditing.
  • Ensure clinical effectiveness across the Upper limb therapy clinical specialty by utilizing evaluation and research skills.
  • Provide strong clinical leadership in the provision of an effective, high-quality Upper limb therapy Service for patients.
  • Lead and support audit and research projects to evaluate service delivery.
  • Be responsible for the education, training, and development of upper limb therapy staff across the OPD section and the whole service.

Person Specification
  • Appropriate Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy qualification and registration with the Health Care Professions Council.
  • Experience in staff management, including supervision and development and performance management of staff.
  • Significant experience in education and clinical training of others.
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in the specialist assessment and treatment of a wide range of complex acute and chronic clinical presentations.
  • Excellent knowledge of anatomy and physiology, as well as IT systems and their application to clinical practice.
