Job Title: Director of Science

About the Role

We are looking for a highly accomplished leader to guide our scientific research with a clear vision, ensuring our work meets and exceeds world-class standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for our scientific research, aligning with UKRI-NERC's and government's objectives and priorities.
  • Champion our involvement in the wider polar sciences agenda and community, both nationally and internationally.
  • Lead and coordinate our senior science leaders to ensure effective line management and career development for all science staff.
  • Ensure good relationships with UKRI and NERC, working closely with other NERC and UKRI Centres and research institutions.
  • Represent the Director of BAS in international and national scientific forums and committees.
Requirements

We are seeking a candidate with a professorial level or above, holding a PhD, and possessing strong financial management and strategic planning skills.

A commitment to health and safety excellence and risk management is essential, as is a track record of delivering organisational transformation and change management.
