SEN Tutor Job Description

Reed is seeking a dedicated SEN Tutor to join their team at a Further Education College in North London. The successful candidate will have experience in teaching students with profound and severe learning difficulties, utilizing sensory curriculums and non-verbal communication methods.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's needs.
  • Utilize sensory curriculum and communication devices effectively to enhance learning.
  • Teach basic Maths and English at entry level to students with profound learning difficulties.
  • Employ Makaton and other non-verbal communication techniques to facilitate interaction and learning.
  • Monitor and record students' progress, adapting teaching methods and materials as needed.
  • Collaborate with other educational professionals, parents, and caregivers to support students' educational and personal development.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience as an SEN Tutor or in a similar role, specifically with non-verbal and severely learning-challenged students.
  • Familiarity with sensory curriculums and the use of communication devices in educational settings.
  • Proficient in Makaton or similar non-verbal communication methods.
  • Ability to teach Maths and English at entry level.
  • Strong understanding of the educational needs of students with profound and severe learning difficulties.
  • Candidates with only mainstream school experience and those only experienced with ADHD and Dyslexia are not suitable for this role.
