Job Summary

The post holder will be responsible for managing and advising on STP Pathology contracts to ensure the contracting party delivers key contractual obligations. This will involve working closely with divisions to understand processes and context of the service.

Main Duties of the Job

Support the PBU with contract drafting and setup of new commercial arrangements. Provide advice and guidance to support development and production of contract strategy for the CA. Initiate and implement appropriate systems, processes, and procedures. Use expert knowledge and understanding to provide detailed and complex analysis of business requirements. Ensure clarity around all lead and associate contracts. Develop and finalise contracts. Support service specification production and negotiation for inclusion within contract documentation. Provide contract negotiation support. Provide contract dispute resolution support to reach mutually acceptable solutions to contract issues. Ensure that contract management is supported by provider activity and invoice validation and data quality review.

Job Responsibilities

The post holder is expected to participate in commercial contract discussions on behalf of the STP Pathology. This will include negotiations with outsource contractors, external bodies, both NHS and non-NHS, on strategic financial and contractual implications.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL). Evidence of continuous professional development.

Knowledge

Essential

Specialist knowledge in writing and managing contracts. Understanding of national and local priorities. Significant experience of health service and procurement systems.

Desirable

Demonstrate a sound understanding of the NHS, including the political and business agenda. Knowledge of NHS finance policy and NHS legislation. Experience at Senior Management Level in an acute hospital within the NHS or other large complex multi-professional organisation.

Experience

Essential

Experience of contract negotiation and advice. Experience of contract drafting and commercial practices. Experience of manipulating, analysing, and reporting data. Experience of multi-disciplinary team working.

Desirable

Ability to work with staff at all levels, with specific ability to work with senior teams. Experience of investigation and analysis into financial issues, including evidence of detailed and precise report writing skills. Experience of delivering training.
