We are seeking a qualified and experienced Teaching Assistant to support our primary school-aged pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour.
The ideal candidate will have a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification and experience in supporting pupils with SEMH needs, including managing challenging behaviour in a school setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 or small group support to pupils with SEMH needs, focusing on those who present with challenging behaviour.
- Assist in creating a nurturing, supportive, and structured learning environment, helping pupils manage their emotions and behaviour effectively.
- Implement individualized support plans, working closely with class teachers, SENCO, and other staff to ensure that the needs of each pupil are fully met.
- Help pupils engage positively with learning activities, fostering resilience, self-esteem, and social skills.
- Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour, using appropriate strategies to support pupils in regulating their emotions.
- Collaborate in the planning and delivery of interventions and activities tailored to pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, sharing updates with teaching staff, SENCO, and parents as required.
Requirements:
- Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
- Proven experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs, including managing challenging behaviour in a school setting.
- A good understanding of strategies for working with children who are below age-related expectations.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and resilience, with the ability to remain calm and effective in challenging situations.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all pupils.
Desirable:
- Additional training or experience in behaviour management, SEMH interventions, or SEND.
- Experience working with pupils on the SEND register, particularly those with complex needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
