About the Role

The National Physical Laboratory's Manufacturing Metrology Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced scientist to lead our team in delivering impactful research and commercial services. As a Principal Scientist, you will be responsible for providing scientific leadership and strategic direction to the group, ensuring our research and services have maximum impact on the manufacturing industry.

About You

We are looking for a scientist with a strong background in one of the key areas of our research, including CMM, non-contact measurement, image analysis, or XCT. You should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field and a relevant academic qualification to at least degree level, ideally a Master's or PhD in an engineering or science subject.

Key Responsibilities

As a Principal Scientist, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing scientific leadership and strategic direction to the group
  • Developing and delivering impactful research and commercial services
  • Collaborating with industry partners to scope and deliver projects
  • Leading teams of scientists and influencing technical and non-technical audiences
  • Defining and delivering on scientific strategy
