Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiate with aligned brokers on allocated renewals, quotations, and handle ad hoc enquiries.
  • Develop the ability to successfully negotiate with our broker partners and provide tailored solutions to both our broker and customer needs.
  • Take ownership of allocated cases and work proactively with the broker to negotiate the right outcome.
  • Review allocated cases and deliver underwriting decisions, following agreed processes at the designated authority level and with the necessary direction and support, to secure profitable business within the agreed risk appetite.
  • Identify non-standard or complex risks and escalate to ensure they are handled appropriately.
  • Actively engage in the identification, prioritisation, negotiation, and winning of new business and profitable renewals, in line with agreed business strategies and delegated authorities.
  • Manage customer interactions in an efficient, courteous, and timely manner to deliver high standards of customer satisfaction.
  • Contribute to the production of new and existing policy documentation to ensure they are accurate and issued in accordance with agreed service standards.
  • Establish excellent trading relationships across our broker panel to assist new business development and renewal retention.
  • Develop and maintain good internal relationships to support the end-to-end delivery of the customer proposition.
  • Promote Generation Services and Underwriting a range of SME commercial cases consistently and profitably.

About You

We are looking for an Underwriter with a minimum of 3 years Commercial Insurance experience, ideally in underwriting, but we will also consider candidates who have worked in broking or claims and can demonstrate the required skill set and possess good technical knowledge.

The ideal candidate will have good all-around insurance experience and technical knowledge across a range of classes of insurance products.

They will be enthusiastic, client-focused, results-driven, and able to deliver through others, with commercial acumen and trading skills, including the ability to negotiate.

They will also be able to work to tight deadlines, with a commitment to delivering quality results, and develop strong client and carrier relationships.

Additionally, they will be able to support colleagues in a close team environment, have a strong working knowledge and understanding of most commercial classes of business and associated insurance products, and be highly organised with strong administrative skills.

IT proficiency, particularly in Excel and other IT platforms, is also essential.

We are looking for a high level of motivation and resilience, with a proactive attitude, and the ability to develop and maintain good internal relationships to support the end-to-end delivery of the customer proposition.
