Working Hours: 35 Hours per week

Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

This role is subject to -

Police Vetting – You will be required to undertake a Greater Manchester Police vetting process.

Manchester City Council is looking for a highly qualified individual to become a part of its Prevent Team.

The Prevent initiative is a component of CONTEST, the Government's counter-terrorism framework. The primary goal of Prevent is to prevent individuals from becoming terrorists or endorsing terrorism. This is achieved by confronting extremist ideologies, assisting individuals at risk of radicalization, and fostering resilience across various sectors and institutions susceptible to radical influences. Our approach encompasses all forms of extremism, including both international threats and extreme right-wing movements.

Local authorities play a crucial role in effectively achieving Prevent objectives. The role of the Prevent Training and Research Officer is essential for supporting services and teams within the local authority and collaborating with broader strategic partners to implement activities that address local risks and emerging threats. This position will focus on enhancing the understanding and skills of staff to address complex ideologies and sensitive matters, as well as developing and delivering training and resources that empower practitioners to strengthen their counter-terrorism efforts. This includes identifying, assessing, and utilizing existing secondary research, as well as conducting research on specific ideologies, drawing from national and international studies on key topics, including insights from Homeland Security reports.

The Training and Research Officer will:

Lead, manage, and execute high-quality research and intelligence/analysis projects, contributing to various plans and strategies.

Assist in the development, integration, and execution of a comprehensive training strategy that encompasses a variety of tools and resources.

Collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, fostering and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues and relevant external partners to enhance their contributions to research and training priorities.

Create a thorough Prevent training program that will be implemented both internally and externally, reflecting local risks and threats, along with necessary monitoring and evaluation processes.
