About the Role

This is a key position within the RSM outsourcing practice, responsible for supporting the growth of the centralised UK, EU, and Global VAT compliance capability. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing insightful analysis of VAT returns and data, and delivering high-quality VAT compliance engagements.
  • Acting as a central point of contact for clients, ensuring quality assurance over all indirect tax filings.
  • Assessing and reviewing AP/AR data, transactions, and tax codes to determine appropriate VAT treatments and reporting requirements.
  • Monitoring the quality of indirect tax data inputs, reports, and analysing outputs from key data tests.
  • Developing a deep understanding of clients' business models, supply chains, data, and ERP systems to provide excellent client servicing and identify VAT opportunities.
  • Managing and developing junior members responsible for delivery of compliance services.
  • Building a UK/EU and Global VAT compliance knowledge centre/database to enhance efficiency and improve client experience.
  • Ensuring compliance documentation and process notes are up-to-date, reflecting legislative and business changes.
  • Identifying issues and opportunities to continuously improve internal compliance processes and involvement in process efficiency and transformation projects.

About the Ideal Candidate

  • Excellent VAT compliance technical skills, ideally from a previous European role in practice or industry.
  • A strong interest and capability in VAT return processing, process improvement, and technology enablement.
  • Ownership and management skills, with the ability to manage and guide junior members of staff in the compliance function.
  • Effective use of IT, including Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel, and Alteryx.
  • Relationship management skills, both internally and externally.
  • Exposure to projects with an international dimension and an appreciation of cultural nuances.
  • Ability to organise and manage time efficiently and effectively.
  • Skills in functional process-mapping, including attention to detail and ability to identify anomalies.
  • Ambitious and motivated, with a clear progression path for the right individual.
