About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Transport Operations Manager to join our team at a growing Transport and Logistics business. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for managing, monitoring, and controlling all aspects of our operating license to ensure compliance with all undertakings at all times.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the day-to-day operation of General Haulage, Pallet Networks, ensuring maximum backload potential and revenue per vehicle per day.
- Ensure customer satisfaction and meet customer Service Level Agreements (SLAs) while managing operational costs to achieve financial goals and targets.
- Manage a fleet of over 80 trucks and 100 trailers, as well as 65 drivers and the planning and customer service teams, reporting directly to the General Manager.
- Fully utilize all IT systems and platforms to ensure the fleet remains legal and compliant, and to improve and maximize efficiency and smooth running of the operation, providing maximum fleet availability at all times.
- Build, grow, and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders within the business to promote partnership working and improve operational efficiency.
- Create, promote, and implement clear communication channels with internal departments and external customers to improve KPIs and profitability of the business.
- Manage all information to ensure it is up-to-date and held in a secure location to comply with GDPR legislation.
- Manage driver hours and tachographs and forward data to relevant internal departments to ensure accurate records are kept, securely stored, and readily available on request.
- Lead on the implementation and management of safe working practices, general housekeeping, and manage audits from both external and internal clients to ensure compliance.
- Monitor and program fleet maintenance covering all vehicles and trailers, including hire vehicles and trailers, and maintain accurate and full records for 15 months.
- Monitor driver behaviors, including vehicles and trailers not being overloaded, vehicles operating within speed limits, defects promptly reported, and investigate any infringements with individual drivers and record any remedial action taken.
- Manage the compliance of the operating center, including laws relating to the driving and operation of vehicles used, and report any changes to the Traffic Commissioner to ensure compliance.
- Manage customer service levels, on-board new customers to ensure smooth start-up, and ensure enough sub-contractors to cover operational needs.
- Logistics qualification desirable
- Transport Managers Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) essential
- Working knowledge of the Highway Code, EU tachograph requirements, Working Time Regulations, Road Transport Regulations
- Commercial and Financial awareness
- Working knowledge of transport operation systems
- Geography of the UK and road networks
- Health and Safety regulations
- Relevant transport management experience
- Analyzing and solving logistic problems
- Transport operation systems
- Managing a busy successful Traffic office
