Job Description

The Graduate Experimental Nuclear Physicist role will be based in the Applied Radiation Technology (ART) group, contributing to the successful delivery of services and R&D provided by the RADLab through the deployment of nuclear diagnostics and data analysis.

This involves:

  • Designing, operating, maintaining, and demonstrating equipment.
  • Developing knowledge and understanding of fusion-relevant topics and applying this learning to assigned projects.
  • Liaising with other teams and groups to build networks and ensure effective collaboration.
  • Ensuring that safety, health, and environment culture and working practices align with UKAEA requirements.
Key Responsibilities

This role encompasses various responsibilities, including performing technical tasks to provide experience and familiarization with staff, methods, practices, and programs of the organisation. Additionally, you will contribute to the maintenance and development of nuclear diagnostics for the realisation of fusion power plants.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • A relevant degree or equivalent level in a relevant STEM discipline within the past 2 years.
  • Demonstrable ability to question existing scientific models and express this clearly through high-quality written reports.
  • IT literacy, including Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel and SharePoint).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good planning, organising, and time management skills.
