Operations Manager - Section (Aggregates & Asphalt)

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Operations Manager - Section (Aggregates & Asphalt) to join and lead our friendly operations team at our Tarmac Cairneyhill Quarry and Asphalt Plant.

Main Responsibilities
  • Manage and be accountable for all quarrying operations on the site while also providing assistance to the Asphalt plant.
  • Ensure safety and operational standards are maintained, with cost control, people management, delivery to customer needs, and performance improvement being key.
  • Manage plant compliance with business policies and procedures and ensure legislative compliance.
  • Lead change and continuous improvement initiatives, while maintaining disciplined stock management processes and producing operational reports.
  • Understand different methods of winning and extracting raw material, including techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options to transport extracted minerals.
  • Knowledge of Quarry Regulations 1999 and ability to enable a Reg 8.1d appointment.
  • All aspects of budgetary control for all quarrying operations.
  • Maintain and implement existing and new Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments, and training staff on the same.
  • Manage and oversee the safe operation of the plant and the planned preventative maintenance of all site equipment, fixed and mobile.
  • Reporting and investigating any unsafe or hazardous working practices.
  • Issuing of safety briefings and toolbox talks to the operational team.
  • Managing proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of staff and keep an up-to-date training matrix.
  • Collating and reporting on monthly performance KPIs for the business unit.
  • Ensuring appropriate Contractor and visitor inductions are carried out in line with company procedures.
Requirements
  • Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdSc Extractives Technology.
  • SHE NVQ Level 4/QCF Level 6.
  • Highly experienced in Quarrying Operations/Asphalt operations.
  • IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous.
  • Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems.
  • Working knowledge of production processes, H&S and Environmental policies.
  • Strong IT skills, including a high level of competence with SAP and the Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to multitask and manage change.
