Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in Substance Misuse Services

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Locum Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Specialist Directorate in North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality medical care to patients with substance misuse issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out new referral assessments and deliver therapy or refer to colleagues for relevant interventions.
- Formulate care and treatment plans, prescribe various types of treatment, and provide guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness.
- Actively support patients and their families, communicating clinical information to explain a diagnosis and treatment options using various methods to ensure practical understanding.
- Communicate with patients and the wider multidisciplinary team on shared patient decision making.
- Work in and where appropriate, lead a multidisciplinary team.
- Assess and prioritise patient/client requirements, delegating effectively to others.
- Recognise, review, and report a patient's condition and any changes to the patient and the multidisciplinary team.
- Perform basic administrative and clerical tasks, such as keeping records of test results, writing prescriptions, providing information to patients, and monitoring treatment plans.
- Help teach and train other junior doctors and medical students and other multidisciplinary team members.

About the Unit
The Edward Myers Unit is an NHS-run, medically managed inpatient detoxification service, specialising in caring for people with severe and complex medical and/or psychiatric needs who require supervision in a controlled medical environment. We provide a 24-hour planned programme of medical and nursing evaluation, care, and treatment to address the complex physical, mental health, and behavioural needs of people with substance-related disorders.

- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
