About the Role

Ashbrittle is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead and coordinate design activities, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality projects in the residential and education sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design Coordination: Lead and manage the design process on residential and education new build projects, coordinating with architects, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of design information.
  2. Pre-Construction Involvement: Work closely with the pre-construction and bid teams, providing technical advice and ensuring that design proposals align with project specifications and budgetary constraints.
  3. Programme Management: Develop and manage the design programme, ensuring that all design activities are completed in line with project milestones.
  4. Risk Management: Proactively identify and mitigate design-related risks, ensuring that potential issues are addressed early in the project lifecycle.
  5. Design Review: Regularly review and approve design documents, ensuring that they meet client expectations, building regulations, and quality standards.
  6. Compliance: Ensure that all design solutions comply with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, including building regulations, planning permissions, and sustainability targets.
Requirements
  1. Proven experience as a Design Manager within the construction industry, ideally with a focus on residential and/or education new build projects.
  2. Strong technical knowledge of design processes, building regulations, and construction methodologies.
  3. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with architects, consultants, clients, and subcontractors.
  4. Experience in leading the design process from tender through to project completion.
  5. Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modelling) processes and software is desirable.
  6. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage and mitigate design risks.
