As a Carpenter with the New Zealand Defence Force, you will play a critical role in constructing and maintaining assets on camp and during deployments. Your primary responsibility will be vertical construction, including building new facilities and repairing existing ones in various locations around the world.
Key Responsibilities- Construct and maintain buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure on camp and during deployments
- Work with a range of materials and in various environments, including disaster-stricken areas
- Receive training under the BCITO apprenticeship scheme to qualify in Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry
- Develop skills in field engineering, including bridging, water supply, and explosives
- Work as part of a team to achieve construction goals and objectives
As a Carpenter, you will have opportunities to progress to more senior roles, including project management and site foremanship. You will also have access to advanced training and qualifications, including the Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Construction Related Trades (Supervisor).

Entry RequirementsTo be eligible for this role, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 17 years of age
- Meet the citizenship and security requirements to gain CV security clearance
- Hold a Class 1 restricted driver's licence (recommended but not compulsory)
- Have any practical or construction experience (desirable)
Once you have completed training, you will be required to give a two-year return of service to the New Zealand Defence Force.
