About the Role

NFU Mutual is seeking a highly experienced professional to join their Head Office Underwriting Department as an Engineering Insurance Underwriter on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract basis. The successful candidate will have a wealth of underwriting or broker experience in engineering breakdown insurance and be able to recommend and develop the underwriting strategy for NFU Mutual's engineering insurance offering.

The role involves establishing appropriate rules, terms, and risk features that enable the delivery of profit and growth objectives while effectively managing insurance risk in line with the overall underwriting strategy. Key responsibilities include translating underwriting appetite into workable rules, processes, and communications for use by NFU Mutual agents and underwriters, reviewing and providing expert judgement to risk rates, and collating and analysing management information to identify opportunities for improving the underwriting strategy.

Requirements

  • A background in a head office function, showcasing strategic thinking and effective project management delivery
  • Strong knowledge of the engineering insurance market and excellent understanding of factors influencing its performance
  • Negotiation skills, influencing abilities, and vast experience collaborating with stakeholders
  • Effective communication style and ability to present information to different audiences
  • Data literacy and ability to translate data into actionable insights
