SEMh Teaching Assistant Job Description

We are recruiting for a skilled and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team at Protocol Education Ltd. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting teachers in the classroom, developing tailored educational activities, and providing one-to-one support to students. They will also contribute to creating individualised learning plans and manage challenging behaviour effectively. A strong understanding of SEMH and excellent communication skills are essential for this role. Experience working with children or young people is also preferred.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Supporting students with SEMH needs in their learning and development.
  • Planning and delivering tailored educational activities with the assistance of teachers.
  • Providing one-to-one support to students to help them achieve their academic goals.
  • Managing challenging behaviour effectively using appropriate strategies.
  • Collaborating with educational professionals and parents to create individualised learning plans.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Taught Assistant qualification.
  • Training in de-escalation techniques and positive handling.


Educational Requirements: Relevant qualification in Education, Psychology, or Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Salary Range: £18,000 - £22,000 per year based on your experience.
