Job Summary
Owen Daniels Consultancy is seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our team. As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing flow control products for Defence applications, considering factors such as pressure, temperature, environmental conditions, and fluid compatibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed engineering analyses for performance, reliability, and safety in extreme conditions.
- Review external analysis and validation data, including FEA, CFD, and physical test results.
- Ensure compliance with industry, military, and government standards for technical, quality, and safety requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for seamless integration into Defence systems.
- Analyse and troubleshoot valve failures, implementing corrective actions and design improvements.
- Generate engineering documentation, such as drawings, calculations, plans, and technical instructions.
- Provide progress reports to stakeholders.
- Manage time and costs, operating within budget constraints.
- Stay updated with advancements in valve technology and recommend innovations for continuous improvements.
- Ensure quality assurance and control processes meet or exceed specified standards.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with product design, production, and deployment.
Requirements
- Engineering Degree in a relevant discipline (Mechanical, Aerospace, Naval/Marine, etc).
- 5+ years' experience in a relevant field.
- Mechanical design using 3D software (preferably SolidWorks).
- Experience in creating hand calculations and design/product validation.
- Strong GD&T background.
- Customer interaction (specification interpretation, design reviews, etc).
- Valve/hydraulic systems knowledge.
- Membership with an Engineering Institution is preferable (IMechE, IET, IMarEST, etc).
