About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager - Section (Aggregates & Asphalt) to join our team at Tarmac Cairneyhill Quarry and Asphalt Plant in Caldercruix, Airdrie. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for managing and leading our quarrying operations, ensuring safety and operational standards are met, and driving performance improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and develop a high-performing team to ensure business continuity and reduce risk
- Lead change and continuous improvement initiatives, maintaining disciplined stock management processes and producing operational reports
- Understand different methods of winning and extracting raw materials, including techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options for transportation
- Knowledge of Quarry Regulations and ability to maintain and implement Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments, and training for staff
- Manage and oversee the safe operation of the plant and equipment, with responsibility for your own safety and that of colleagues and business partners
- Reporting and investigating any unsafe or hazardous working practices, issuing safety briefings and toolbox talks to the operational team
- Managing proactively both mandatory and developmental training of staff, collating and reporting on monthly performance KPIs
- Ensuring appropriate Contractor and visitor inductions are carried out in line with company procedures
Requirements
- Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdSc Extractives Technology
- SHE NVQ Level 4/QCF Level 6
- Highly experienced in Quarrying Operations/Asphalt operations
- IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous
- Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems
- Working knowledge of production processes, H&S and Environmental policies
- Strong IT skills, including SAP and Microsoft packages
- Ability to multitask and manage change
