Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom MPOWIR Mentoring Physical Oceanography Women to Increase Retention Full time
Job Description

MPOWIR is seeking a skilled Ice Shelf Modeller to join our team in Cambridge, UK. The successful candidate will have a first degree in physical science/mathematics plus a PhD.

This role involves modelling the Antarctic Ice Sheet's ice loss and its impact on sea-level rise, with a focus on ocean melting of floating glacial ice shelves.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform high-resolution ocean model simulations to understand the influence of horizontal advection on the ice/ocean boundary layer.
  • Develop an ocean column model matching the results of these simulations and Large-Eddy Simulations.
  • Test and develop parameterisations of melting and vertical mixing.
  • Evaluate these parameterisations in a coarser sub-ice-shelf cavity model.
  • Undertake other duties as requested.

The estimated salary for this position is £40,000-£60,000 per annum, depending on experience.
