Beach Baker is delighted to be working with the National Trust to find an experienced Building Surveyor to join their Let Estate Management Team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing properties across the London and Surrey regions, with a base near Dorking.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a dynamic team managing a diverse range of residential, commercial, agricultural properties, and holiday cottages.

The team plays a key role in managing assets that support their £50m national rental income, essential for funding their conservation efforts.

As a Building Surveyor, you will enjoy a varied workload in breathtaking locations, where no two days are the same.

You will work closely with the Senior Building Surveyor, Building Supervisors, and Estate Managers to set up, manage, and execute projects.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising repairs and maintenance across your portfolio
  • Planning and delivering both short- and long-term cyclical building work, compliance tasks, and property improvements with financial responsibility
  • Managing conservation efforts on historic and listed buildings, conducting surveys, creating work schedules, and coordinating with contractors and tenants
  • Acting as a project manager, lead consultant, or commercial client on small to medium projects when needed

We are looking for a professional who can bring the following:

  • Membership in the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Chartered Institute of Buildings (CIOB)
  • Proven experience in conducting surveys, diagnosing building defects, and specifying remedial work on traditional buildings
  • Strong skills in producing work schedules, obtaining contractor quotes, and managing contracts
  • Financial responsibility for projects, with a track record of delivering on budget
  • Experience in engaging contractors, overseeing work to completion, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and policies
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong communication skills, adaptable to building and maintaining positive relationships with tenants
