Leeds, Leeds, United Kingdom MPOWIR Mentoring Physical Oceanography Women to Increase Retention Full time

At MPOWIR Mentoring Physical Oceanography Women to Increase Retention, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the Dedalus framework, a community-developed code for solving partial differential equations in multi-scale physics and fluid dynamics.

Job Summary

The position involves working with the Dedalus developer team, as well as Profs. Steven Tobias and Brad Marston, to provide a flexible package for generating and solving systems of equations for statistical properties of fluid flows in Cartesian, spherical, and cylindrical geometries. This project combines several new areas in statistics, PDEs, and automated computational science.

Responsibilities
  • Object-oriented and functional programming practices, particularly with Python
  • Mathematical statistics
  • Multi-scale modeling and model-reduction techniques for PDEs
  • Spectral numerical methods

A background in machine learning or computational optimization would also be beneficial. The Dedalus project is a community-developed code with a large and diverse user base, and this project will engage in a collaborative development process including public peer-review of code.

Requirements

We offer a competitive salary range of $60,000 - $80,000 per annum, commensurate with experience, and a comprehensive benefits package.
