Job Title:

Senior Engineer - Structural Engineering (Shock and Dynamics)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer to join our Shock and Dynamics team at BAE Systems. As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the structural integrity of our submarines, supporting Principal Engineers with the setting of sub-system requirements to meet whole boat naval shock requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support Principal Engineers with the setting of sub-system requirements to meet whole boat naval shock requirements.
  • Support management of verification, validation (V&V) and qualification evidence to ensure sub-systems meet shock requirements.
  • Develop design justification documentation.
  • Support and undertake assessments of structures and equipment subjected to naval shock load cases.
  • Provide design guidance at design reviews with respect to naval shock load cases.
  • Undertake peer review checking activities.
  • Support physical shock test activities.
Requirements:
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree (or STEM degree).
  • Knowledge of undertaking structural design calculations (ie bolted joints/bending moment/shear stress).
  • Understanding of material strength properties and limits (elastic and plastic properties).

About the Team:

You will be joining a dynamic team of 10 members, working on a wide range of projects, and will have the opportunity to liaise with stakeholders across multiple disciplines.

As a Senior Engineer within the Shock and Dynamics department, you will support Principal Engineers with ensuring structures and equipment are verified against naval shock requirements. You will support requirements for sub-systems to ensure overall boat requirements are met. You will also support sub-system maturity in relation to naval shock and will provide design guidance to both internal and external stakeholders at design reviews.
