Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join our Manchester team, specializing in infrastructure projects within the transportation, utilities, and highways sectors. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading project management commissions, ensuring end-to-end service delivery, and acting as the primary client interface.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead project management commissions, taking ownership of end-to-end service delivery, often for large or complex projects.
  • Act as the key client interface, ensuring client objectives are met, and projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Scope of the Role

Senior Project Managers will handle commissions of varying sizes, depending on the project's complexity. Typically, projects fall within the £10m to £25m range, although larger projects may be involved in advisory roles, such as urban regeneration funding.

Key Accountabilities
  • Project management, including:
    • Advising at a strategic level at the project inception stage, providing guidance on approaches to achieve client objectives.
    • Preparing and maintaining project requirements definitions.
    • Helping establish overall project success criteria, including time, cost, technical, and performance parameters.
    • Establishing effective project governance, processes, and systems.
    • Preparing and maintaining schedules of activity, including producing the master project plan.
    • Managing project development in accordance with approved plans and targets.
    • Developing and implementing resource plans and procuring resources.
    • Leading and facilitating the cross-functional project team.
    • Monitoring and applying performance management techniques, including KPIs to improve project performance.
    • Managing the change control process.
    • Developing and agreeing budgets, controlling forecast and actual costs.
    • Managing project information flow between the team and client through regular meetings and written communications.
    • Identifying and monitoring project risks, planning, and implementing risk mitigations.
    • Preparing formal project progress and other reports.
    • Taking a leading role in interfacing with the client, other consultants, and managing stakeholders at all project stages.
    • Advising the client on Health & Safety and Environmental issues and risks.
    • Planning for and managing quality, safety, health, and environment issues.
Qualifications and Experience

A Senior Project Manager will be judged on the extent to which:

  • Projects are managed to the right quality standards and completed efficiently, on time, and to budget.
  • Project delivery meets client objectives and is in line with the conditions of appointment.
  • The project team is led effectively.
  • Strong relationships are developed with clients and members of the cross-functional team.
  • General line management responsibilities (where applicable) are effectively discharged.
  • Business development opportunities with existing and new clients, including cross-selling opportunities, are identified and acted upon.
  • The internal financial status of all projects is effectively monitored.
  • Key information and data are effectively cascaded and appropriately retained.

Candidates will ideally be degree qualified (Civil Engineering) and have experience on large scheme projects (£100m plus). Preferred if chartered/qualified with ICE, APM, RICS, etc.
