Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Road Maintenance Specialist to join our team at BEAR Scotland. As a VRS Operative, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our road network.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Erect and remove temporary and permanent crash barriers, as well as traffic management signs.
  • Install and fix temporary/permanent road furniture.
  • Operate power tools, small plant, and machinery.
  • Drive vehicles, including those with simple attachments such as tractors.
  • Provide support for specialist VRS team members.
  • Ensure the health and safety of the public, colleagues, and yourself.
  • Participate in standby and winter maintenance rota.
  • Perform winter maintenance duties, including fitting gritter body and blade, driving gritter, and spreading salt by hand if required.

Requirements:

  • Experience in road maintenance operations, with a focus on vehicle restraint systems.
  • Hold a clean driving license, preferably at LGV2 level.
  • Flexibility for shift work and willingness to work away from home on occasion.
  • Ability to undertake training and achieve competence in aspects of the current job, as well as preparing oneself to progress to the next level of job.
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures, including H&S CLSA 34X and CITB H&S touch screen tests.
  • Experience of using small plant and holding tickets for plant, traffic management, and health and safety.
