Tissue Retrieval Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Retrieval Team Supervisor. As a key member of our Retrieval Team, you will play a vital role in the donation of tissues from deceased donors, which will directly contribute to the saving and improving of patients' lives.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the Retrieval Team Manager in ensuring a functional tissue donation service is delivered at a local team level, including roster management, stock management, mentoring, staff training, and performing tissue retrievals from deceased donors in various settings.
- Lead the retrieval of tissues (eye, bones, tendons, skin, heart) from deceased donors.
- Be a proactive member of the Tissue and Eye Services team.
- Ensure efficient working and productivity, maintaining accurate records.
- Travel extensively, including overnight stays, and spend time away from base when required.

- Eye and Tissue Retrieval, including bone, skin, heart valves, tendons, and arteries.
- Vehicle Familiarisation, including a driving assessment.
- Mortuary Work, acclimation to working in mortuary settings and with deceased patients.
- Regulatory Knowledge, understanding Human Tissue Authority regulations, consent requirements, and the Human Tissue Act.
- Tissue Retrieval, training in dissection and tissue removal, with basic anatomy instruction.
- Clinical Pathway Insight, overview of the process from referral and consent to tissue preparation for transplantation.
- Virology Testing, basic understanding of virology testing on deceased donors.
- Support Functions, training in stock ordering, retrieval kit preparation, and other support areas.
- Competency Assessments, completion of competency assessments in eye and tissue retrieval around the 6-month mark.
We are looking for an individual with substantial experience working in a busy clinical area or GMP laboratory, handling deceased patients, blood/blood products/tissue, and experience working unsupervised or supervising others in a clinical environment or regulated laboratory/ manufacturing environment meeting GMP standards.
Possession of a degree in a healthcare/biological science or equivalent management/leadership qualification or equivalent level of knowledge gained through formal training and experience working within a blood or tissue banking environment is required.
