Job Description

We are seeking an exceptional candidate to join our team as an Assistant Professor in Ecology, Evolution, or Behavioural Ecology. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of internationally excellent research and teaching while allowing you to progress and embed your career in a progressive institution.

The successful candidate will have a strong research background in ecology, evolution, or behavioural ecology, with a proven track record of producing high-quality outputs. They will also have excellent teaching skills and the ability to deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials at undergraduate and taught postgraduate levels.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the administrative functioning of the Department, Faculty, and University, including leadership roles and responsibilities in an academic context. They will also be involved in the provision of excellent supervision for PhD students and will be expected to engage in the development of successful research projects and quality research grant proposals.

We offer a reduced probation period of 1 year for our Assistant Professors and thereafter, subject to satisfactory performance, your position will be confirmed as permanent. Key Responsibilities:

  • Pursue research that is high quality in terms of originality, significance, and rigour.
  • Play a role in relevant teaching and research supervision, and contribute to ongoing curriculum development.
  • Contribute to enhancing the quality of the research environment in the Department, the wider University, and beyond through collaborative research activity.
  • Deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials at undergraduate and taught postgraduate levels, as well as engaging in related activity such as assessment.
  • Contribute to attracting and supervising research students, and to enhance the Department's commitment to its vibrant and inclusive postgraduate culture.

Requirements:

  • Completed PhD (or close to completion) in Biosciences or a related subject.
  • High-quality research outputs, some of which is recognised as internationally excellent or world-class.
  • Excellent teaching skills and the ability to deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials at undergraduate and taught postgraduate levels.
  • Experience, skills, and/or achievements that demonstrate engagement in activities that contribute to the administrative functioning of an academic Department, Faculty, University, and/or discipline.
  • Leadership roles and responsibilities in an academic context.
  • Involvement in the provision of excellent supervision for PhD students.
  • Engagement in the development of successful research projects and quality research grant proposals.
