Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal / Senior Consultant & Service to join our team at The Skills Coalition. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of nature sustainability for the mining sector.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in environmental and social impact assessment, with experience in applying lender requirements, particularly International Finance Corporation's Performance Standard 6, to development projects in emerging economies in extractives and/or agribusiness sectors.

You will be responsible for undertaking assessments to understand site-level project risks and impacts, identifying opportunities for mitigation including offset, and working with senior staff and our technical research and development team to develop approaches, metrics, and tools for assessing and mitigating biodiversity impacts of complex, large-scale projects in areas of sensitive biodiversity.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Management: Technical design of complex projects, ensuring timely delivery of on-budget projects to the requisite level of quality and technical substance.
  2. Environmental and Social Due Diligence of large, complex projects across mining, infrastructure, and agriculture sectors.
  3. Undertaking assessments to identify portfolio-level risks, impacts, and dependencies on nature, and preparing strategies to mitigate risks and optimise opportunities.
  4. Expanding the business through networking and relationship building with global business forums, academia, NGOs, etc.
  5. Public speaking on behalf of The Skills Coalition, including writing, reviewing, and delivering webinars and in-person presentations to elevate our visibility as a trusted brand for the mining sector.
  6. Writing and reviewing material for scientific and business press, The Skills Coalition website, and publications.
  7. Line management of junior consultant(s), mentoring and supporting their professional development.

Requirements:

  1. At least ten years' relevant experience in development projects with a focus on mining.
  2. Experience applying lender requirements, particularly International Finance Corporation's Performance Standard 6, to development projects in emerging economies in extractives and/or agribusiness sectors.
  3. Experience managing and delivering multiple complex projects.
  4. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  5. Sufficient GIS skills to design and evaluate analyses with our GIS team.
  6. Willingness and enthusiasm to travel globally and work in challenging environments.
  7. A background as a field conservation specialist, understanding how to make conservation theory work in practice with communities and governments.
  8. Proven ability to work in French or Spanish.
  9. A postgraduate qualification or a PhD in a relevant discipline.
