Peer Support Specialist

Join our team at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust as a Peer Support Worker, where you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with mental health conditions to achieve their recovery goals.
About the RoleAs a Peer Support Worker, you will work closely with service users to establish a supportive and respectful relationship, promoting their independence and well-being. Your role will involve:
- Establishing a supportive and respectful relationship with peers and other service users.
- Welcoming new service users and explaining the function of the team and different professionals within it.
- Collecting baseline outcome data, consent, and carers' information.
- Providing information on how to access support outside of working hours and signposting to community resources.
- Helping service users prepare for appointments and attending appointments if necessary.
- Modeling personal responsibility, self-awareness, and self-advocacy through sharing your own recovery story.
- Assisting peers and other service users in creating a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) and advanced directives.
- Sharing coping, self-help, and self-management techniques within the peer relationship.
- Supporting peers and other service users to identify and overcome fears and challenging negative self-talk.
- Facilitating access to community groups and networks to enable participation in community activities.
- Accompanying peers and other service users to appointments and performing practical tasks aligned with recovery goals.
- Acting as a positive role model, demonstrating professional and caring attitudes and behavior towards team members, peers, and carers.
- Ensuring peers' recovery goals are integrated into Trust processes and reviewed regularly.
- Working in a way that acknowledges personal, social, cultural, and spiritual strengths and needs of individuals.
We are looking for individuals with a good level of secondary education to GCSE level and completion of Peer Support Worker Training or a commitment to complete within 3-6 months of employment. Desirable criteria include related health or social care qualifications, lived experience of a long-term health condition, and experience of being in a supportive and enabling role.
