Bennett and Game Recruitment is seeking a skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our undisclosed company in Chichester, West Sussex. As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in delivering comprehensive design information, including necessary documentation for CE/UKCA compliance, for existing and new company products.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Developing electro-mechanical 3D models and technical drawings for company products under the direction of the Product Manager.
  2. Creating 2D engineering drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs) derived from 3D models.
  3. Preparing and managing all design-related documentation, including generating design files, recording relevant calculations, and compiling documentation required for UKCA/CE compliance.
  4. Delivering comprehensive design and information packages, including electronic designs, to support procurement, production, and SSG teams.
  5. Maintaining and updating existing design documentation within the engineering system.
  6. Organizing and leading design concept and scope meetings as needed to establish design criteria.
  7. Assisting in managing the Engineering Change Request/Engineering Change Notice (ECR/ECN) process under the guidance of the Product Manager.
  8. Integrating new special-order designs into the existing product range with oversight from the Product Manager.
  9. Proactively identifying and proposing improvements to current product designs, obtaining approval from the Product Manager.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  2. Expert proficiency with SolidWorks CAD software.
  3. Strong knowledge of machining processes, materials, finishing methods, and fabrication techniques.
  4. Familiarity with electrical/electronic products is advantageous.
  5. Understanding of application tolerances and cost-effective manufacturing practices.
  6. Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks 3D modeling.
  7. Strong mechanical design skills and ability to perform engineering calculations.
  8. Experience with AutoCAD/DraftSight is a plus.
  9. Practical workshop skills.
  10. Effective project and time management abilities.
  11. In-depth knowledge of BS8888 for engineering drawing standards.
  12. Excellent communication skills, particularly for mentoring junior team members and sharing knowledge.
  13. Familiarity with pressure vessel design, relevant design codes, and CE approval processes is beneficial.
