This position is part of the EU Horizon project "ACMod: Affective Computing Model from Facial Expression to Mind-Reading." The project involves seven universities and three industrial partners. You will work with Dr. Hongchuan Yu, the principal investigator at Bournemouth University, focusing on mental health applications.

The project aims to advance the state-of-the-art in understanding and modeling naturalistic facial behaviors in social interactions. The Bournemouth University team focuses on improving mental health services and collaborating with industry partners for future technology commercialization.

We seek applicants of international excellence. The National Centre for Computer Animation at Bournemouth University has an international research reputation in computer graphics and animation. It has established close links with prominent animation organizations and award-winning professionals. You will be part of this research center, exchanging research with leading groups and developing your network with industry professionals.

To be considered for this appointment, you must demonstrate the ability to perform duties as listed for a PDRA position with a higher degree of independence, leadership, and responsibility, particularly in planning, funding, collaborating, and publishing research, and mentoring seconded students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a mental health app prototype with two main functionalities: assessing individual profiles to recommend suitable therapists and acting as a digital community platform for therapists to share educational content.
  • Create a Microsoft Copilot-based VR/AR tool for clients to interact with virtual therapists in a VR/AR environment, allowing therapists to intervene and observe during virtual video-therapy sessions.
  • You should possess a PhD in computer science or a related engineering field, along with at least one additional degree in computer science. Experience in app development based on Android and iOS is required, ideally with a live community-building app launched.

This is a two-year fixed-term appointment for the EU Horizon-funded project "ACMod." It may be renewed based on project progression.
