Penguin Recruitment Ltd is seeking a highly skilled Hydrometeorologist Specialist to join their team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in meteorology, hydrology, science or mathematics and experience working with global weather data sets.

This role offers a competitive salary of £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, a substantial bonus, and career development opportunities. As a Flood Forecasting Systems Developer, you will be responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and utilising global weather data sets to support flood forecasting systems.

The ideal candidate will have a BSc, MSc, and/or PhD in meteorology, hydrology, science or mathematics and experience working for a UK-based Consultancy, Local Authority, or University specialising in Python, geospatial processes, GIS, and analysing large weather data sets.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop innovative approaches for utilising ensemble weather data sets to support flood forecasting.
  • Research and test different deterministic and ensemble weather data to optimise processes for simulating live flood events.
  • Test weather APIs to assess performance.
  • Use Python and GIS to validate weather data performance.
  • Calibrate, test, and assess the performance of the flood forecasting system using flood forecasting and weather data.
