Second Chef Role Summary
The Second Chef role at Barchester offers an excellent opportunity for a qualified chef to work in a care home environment, delivering high-quality, nutritious meals while enjoying a better work-life balance compared to traditional restaurant or hotel settings. As a Second Chef, you will be responsible for assisting the Head Chef in creating delicious, well-balanced menus using fresh, seasonal produce. You will have the chance to work closely with residents to tailor the menu to their preferences, creating a warm and welcoming environment. This role allows you to maintain high culinary standards without the long hours and split shifts often found in the hospitality industry.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assist the Head Chef in menu development and kitchen management.
  2. Work with fresh produce to deliver high-quality and wholesome dishes cooked at the highest standards.
  3. Create a warm, efficient, and fun environment in the kitchen.
  4. Manage stock control and complete regular audits.

Requirements
  1. A good understanding of nutrition and experience working with fresh, seasonal ingredients.
  2. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to engage with residents, and a commitment to HACCP.
  3. A City & Guilds, NVQ, or SVQ qualification in cooking or a related field.
