About the Role:
Civil Engineering Technicians play a vital part in the construction and built environment sector, working closely with engineers and other professionals to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Practical knowledge and IT skills are essential for this role, as well as the ability to follow plans and measurements.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills are also crucial, as well as forecasting and communication skills.
- Team working and a willingness to learn are also essential qualities for this role.
- Maths and Science skills are also required.
Qualifications and Training:
To become a Civil Engineering Technician, you will typically need 4 or more GCSEs grades A-C (9-4) and a minimum of 2 A Levels or BTEC equivalent.
You can study a BTEC Subsidiary or Extended Diploma in Construction & the Built Environment or Civil Engineering; or an Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering.
Alternatively, you can study a HNC, HND, Higher Apprenticeship or Degree in Construction and the Built Environment, Civil Engineering or other related subjects.
These qualifications can give you the academic base to become professionally qualified as an engineer or engineering technician with letters after your name.
Salary and Career Progression:
Newly qualified technicians can earn £17,000 - £19,000.
Qualified technicians with some experience can earn £25,000 - £35,000.
Senior technicians can earn £37,000 to £50,000.
Salaries typically depend on location, employer and level of responsibility.
