Key Responsibilities

  1. Manage and develop existing client accounts with support from the wider business, working closely with a panel of key intermediaries.
  2. Identify new business opportunities and convert business in line with underwriting appetite, utilising your extensive network of key contacts.
  3. Review applications and financial requirements for risks requiring sophisticated underwriting skills, determining acceptability in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
  4. Determine appropriate pricing based on financial and competitive analysis, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  5. Prepare quotations and answer questions from brokers, policyholders, or other external contacts, escalating issues to management as necessary.
  6. Negotiate with brokers to reach positive and profitable outcomes, promoting products and services through the brokerage community.
  7. Provide guidance and assistance to other underwriters and functional areas, particularly in cross-sell opportunities.
  8. Stay current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity, and trends, sharing information with others.
  9. Collaborate with senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling.

Requirements

  1. Strong knowledge and experience of commercial underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices.
  2. High-level technical expertise and product-specific knowledge.
  3. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with ability to interact effectively with all levels of external business partners.
  4. Ability to work independently and identify, analyze, and solve problems.
  5. Rapid learning and adaptability, with strong ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  6. Independent judgment and critical business decision-making skills.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
  8. Leadership skills.
