Senior Water Treatment Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Senior Water Treatment Specialist to join our team at Wessex Water Services, located in the UK.
The estimated salary for this position is £55,000 - £65,000 per year, depending on experience.
About the RoleThis is a full-time opportunity that requires a relevant science or engineering degree or equivalent experience in sewage treatment processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring final effluent quality is compliant with regulatory standards by monitoring performance of wastewater and surface water treatment processes.
You will work proactively and collaboratively to develop measures to address current and future risks, managing two Scientific Analysts and two Environmental Samplers. Key responsibilities include providing technical advice on sewage treatment, surface water treatment, and environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical advice on sewage treatment, surface water treatment, and environmental compliance
- Proactively respond to treatment process issues, identifying and completing mitigating actions, and collaborating with operational teams to prevent future occurrence
- Identify, support, and deliver training for on-site testing and process knowledge development
- Report writing for submission to clients
- Undertake regular client liaison meetings to ensure all stakeholders are informed of ongoing treatment performance and challenges
- Regularly review actions using project HS&E reporting tool
- Optimise site processes, such as chemical dosing, sludge dewatering, power consumption
- Review and approve data reports on a weekly and monthly basis for submission to clients, regularly updating management plans and procedures, and performing monthly inspections
- Engage with Operations teams, Contractors, and other Scientists, driving collaboration and improving technical understanding through mentoring and coaching
- Collaborate with SHEQ team to write risk assessments and RAMS
- Maintain permit compliance across treatment processes, including effluent quality monitoring and data reporting
- Play key role in achieving relevant monthly KPIs and HSEPIs
- Organise sampling and monitoring programs to ensure monitoring requirements are met
- Foster collaborative approach across departments and with clients and external stakeholders
- Collaborate with Site Contractors to mitigate against pollution of surface water network and treatment processes
- Liaise with laboratories to deliver testing of water, sewage, and materials in line with SLAs
- Manage COSHH for treatment and undertake chemical dosing trials and jar testing to optimise treatment processes
- Prepare for Water Management Committee meeting and final meeting
- Daily insight action review and triaging Insight actions
- CEMAR Early Warning reporting
- Brief Science team, toolbox talks, safety messages, and team bonus scores
- Produce monthly Environmental Managers meeting slides
- Collate and store data reports, service/maintenance records, and calibration documents
- Issue and manage permits to discharge system alongside Scientific Analysts for Contractors across site
