Job Description

Role Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Forensic Accountant to join our team at HMRC. As a Forensic Accountant, you will play a critical role in providing objective, independent, and professional advice on criminal investigations and anti-money laundering interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert analysis and interpretation of financial records to support investigations and prosecutions.
  • Act as an independent expert witness in court proceedings, providing clear and concise testimony on complex financial issues.
  • Support activities targeting financial crime, including alcohol, supply chain, and duty evasion fraud.
  • Communicate and advise internal and external stakeholders on financial crime matters.
  • Develop and deliver high-quality accountancy training to colleagues and partners.
  • Coach and mentor colleagues to enhance their skills and knowledge in forensic accounting.

Requirements:

  • Full and complete qualification from one of the following professional accounting bodies: ICAEW, ICAS, CAI, ACCA, CIMA, or CIPFA.
  • Continuing membership of the relevant professional accounting body.
  • Strong financial accounting experience, including analysis and interpretation of financial records, preparation and review of financial statements, and consideration of accounting treatment of specific transactions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial issues to non-accountants.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on professionalism, integrity, and independence.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience of forensic accounting, money laundering issues, and illicit finance issues in the public or private sector.
