Job Overview

About the Role

As a School Meal Assistant, you will be responsible for preparing and serving meals, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring compliance with food hygiene and health and safety regulations. You will work collaboratively with the team to keep the catering service running smoothly.

The successful candidate will be flexible and proactive, with effective communication skills and the ability to meet deadlines. They should also be aware of safe working practices and have experience in a production kitchen or food service role, ideally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve meals, ensuring correct portion sizes and maintaining high standards of presentation.
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere by setting up and dismantling dining furniture.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen, dining areas, and equipment.
  • Follow safety protocols and ensure compliance with food hygiene and health and safety regulations.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Basic Food Hygiene qualification or NVQ Level 1.
  • A current DBS Check.
  • Practical skills to work effectively in a catering unit.
  • Strong understanding of food hygiene principles, portion control, and waste management.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

The salary for this role is estimated to be around £20,000-£25,000 per annum, depending on location and experience.
