About the Head of Internal Audit Role

Our client, a leading financial institution, is seeking a seasoned professional to lead their internal audit function. As a key member of the executive team, the Head of Internal Audit will play a critical role in ensuring the effective governance and risk management of the organization.

Purpose of the Head of Internal Audit Role
  • Develop and implement an audit plan that aligns with the organization's risk management strategy.
  • Lead a team of internal audit professionals in conducting audits and providing assurance on the effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Collaborate with senior management and the audit committee to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Reporting Lines of the Head of Internal Audit Role

The Head of Internal Audit will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will have a dotted line to the Chair of the Audit Committee.

Committee Responsibilities
  • Board Audit Committee - Mandatory
  • Board Risk Committee - Invitee
  • Executive Committee - Invitee
Key Accountabilities of the Head of Internal Audit Role
  • Develop and maintain a risk-based audit plan that aligns with the organization's risk management strategy.
  • Lead a team of internal audit professionals in conducting audits and providing assurance on the effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Collaborate with senior management and the audit committee to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Skills and Experience of the Head of Internal Audit Role
  • Commercially aware and experienced in leading internal audit functions in a financial services organization.
  • Previous experience as a Senior Manager or equivalent in a financial services organization.
  • Good knowledge of internal auditing, risk management, and compliance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to negotiate with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to manage own workload.
Qualifications of the Head of Internal Audit Role
  • ACMA, ACCA, or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous approval as SMF5 in a bank.
  • Professional membership of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
