About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Section Engineer to join our Highways team at Galliford Try. As a key member of our infrastructure project team, you will be responsible for setting out, engineering control, and quality assurance, as well as coordinating and mentoring the site engineering team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in creating a safe working environment and assist the Site Agent in planning and coordinating the project and resources.
  • Coordinate subcontractors to ensure they achieve programme outputs and write, review, and implement Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and Inspection Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Ensure works are carried out as per ITPs, including correct engineering checks, hold points, inspections, and tests, and manage the site engineering team, delegate tasks, train, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Control and update programmes, attend coordination meetings, and daily/week/monthly lookaheads as required, and ensure works are in accordance with the Specification Highways Works (SHW), Project Works Information, and drawings.
  • Raise design-related Request for Information (RFIs) and Technical Queries (TQs), and ensure accurate and timely records are kept, including site diaries, quality assurance documentation, photos, as-built surveys, red-line drawings, and test results.
  • Constant communication and liaison with the commercial team, providing detailed information for accurate financial reporting, including compensation events (CEs) and early warnings (EWs), and manage snagging systems that record and clear all snags and notify the commercial team and subcontractors.
  • Control and minimize waste on site, identify and assist in introducing new processes, techniques, and innovations on site, and ensure all company property under your control is taken care of and stored securely when not in use.
About You
  • You will have the ability to work safely, read and interpret data and drawings, and have advanced setting out techniques and knowledge of GPS.
  • You will have relevant Civil Engineering experience, preferably in Highways, Rail, Water, or Aviation, and proven leadership and delegation skills.
  • You will be flexible in your attitude to work and have problem-solving skills, NVQ Level or higher, SMSTS, and relevant CSCS card.
  • You will also have office expertise and CAD skills.
