Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Colour and Materials Designer to join our team at Contechs. As a Senior Colour and Materials Designer, you will be responsible for leading the Colour and Materials team and delivering high-quality designs that meet the business' requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Colour and Materials team and provide guidance and support to junior designers.
  • Communicate and progress critical issues to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Deputise for the Colour and Materials Manager as required.
  • Support the Colour and Materials team in delivering new materials and finishes for all programs.
  • Research market trends, lifestyles, design, and social trends to inform Colour and Materials design decisions.
  • Work closely with suppliers to develop materials that meet client production specifications.
  • Liaise with designers, function groups, marketing, and purchasing teams to ensure proposals meet required standards.
  • Represent the Colour and Materials team at technical and senior meetings as required.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Direct report to the Colour and Materials Manager.
  • Communicate and progress critical issues to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Define, submit, and manage Colour and Materials Design and Development (D&D) budget.
  • Carry out appraisals as required.
  • Work within the wider Design, CAS, Clay, and Engineering teams to present feasible solutions to stakeholders.
  • Offer input into the creation and update of design standards and processes.
  • Input into Design Strategy.
  • Present and sell Colour and Materials concepts to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Assist in instilling the design statement, pillars, and principles to create a strong future design identity.
  • Assist in instilling the client's way of thinking through brainstorming and concept development sessions.
  • Create Colour and Materials programme vision themes and materials variant lists for all programs.
  • Create and deliver Colour and Materials design research reports and design intent reports for all programs.
  • Submit Colour and Materials plans for long-lead-time parts for all programs.
  • Complete inputs to marketing features lists.
  • Create and confirm trim level strategies.
  • Deliver target samples and support Design Quality in delivery of master samples for all colours and materials.
  • Reconcile design intent, quality, and manufacturing feasibility with engineering and commercial requirements.
Requirements
  • A University Degree in Art and Design or equivalent, with extensive experience as a Colour and Materials Designer.
  • Delivered Colour and Materials for programs from G0 to G4.
  • Excellent experience leading and coaching a high-performance team working within tight deadlines.
  • Possessing a high level of self-motivation, people skills, initiative, flexibility, and determination to see a task through to completion.
  • Solid OEM experience working in a design department of an Automotive company.
  • Highly creative with excellent colour vision, colour harmony, and an intuitive understanding of perceived value and craftsmanship.
  • Significant knowledge of automotive/industrial colours and materials.
  • Presentation skills to explain and express design intention.
  • High-level competence in using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong project planning/management skills essential.
  • Excellent understanding of Colour and Materials and vehicle design.

  • Must possess a genuine passion for pushing the boundaries in Colour and Materials Design.
  • Highly motivated team player with excellent communication and strong presentation skills.
  • Should be well-organised and methodical, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Working exceptionally well under pressure.
