About the Role

As a Principal Data Engineer at British Airways, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping our modern data platform. With a focus on technical leadership, you'll oversee Senior Data Engineers, driving industry best practices to build a world-class data engineering function.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a modern data platform with efficient reusable components, leveraging your innovative mindset and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Establish and lead the BA Data Engineering community of practitioners, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Coordinate training and upskilling initiatives within the data engineering team, ensuring they stay up-to-date with industry developments.
  • Ensure quality and secure engineering practices are upheld by the data product teams, promoting a continuous improvement mindset in both ways of working and data.
  • Maintain high-quality documentation and code, guaranteeing adherence to industry standards.
  • Present data patterns and designs at the data architectural governance forums, showcasing your expertise and thought leadership.

Your Expertise

  • Expertise in SQL development, with a strong understanding of database architecture.
  • Proficiency in using cloud-native Big Data technologies, particularly AWS, Snowflake, Airflow, Git, and Python.
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure, Windows, Linux servers, and container usage.
