Devon, United Kingdom Devon County Council Full time

Make a meaningful difference in the lives of children – Social Work in Devon.

Overview of the Service

The corporate parenting department is embarking on an inspiring and ambitious transformation journey; fostering relational practices to enhance our approach aimed at achieving optimal outcomes for children in care and those with care experience. We firmly believe that, for the majority of families, the family home serves as the ideal environment for children, supported by local, community-based assistance at the earliest opportunity from us and our partners.

Together, we are dedicated to ensuring permanence for our children in long-term care, with a strong emphasis on enabling children to flourish in Devon and fostering lasting connections with their families and communities. We take pride in our workforce and the accomplishments achieved for children and families in Devon.

Role Summary

As a Children's Social Work Team Manager within the Corporate Parenting division, you will collaborate closely with your team and the service manager to cultivate a high-performance, child-centered, and collaborative environment. Your role will involve supporting your team in their continuous professional development to secure the best possible outcomes for our children, young people, and their families. Through regular, high-quality reflective supervision sessions, you will advocate for their personal and professional growth, empowering them to deliver exceptional services to our children and youth.

You will also oversee the care practices for all children and young people, ensuring they receive exemplary care plans, consistent purposeful visits, and access to the necessary support to achieve outstanding outcomes both now and in the future. You will serve as a practice leader, driving quality standards in our interactions with children, young people, and their families while promoting restorative practices.

This position presents an excellent opportunity to advance your social work career within a progressive authority during a time of exciting transformation.

The role allows for some remote work; however, it will primarily be office-based, with an expectation of being present in the office at least three days a week.

Candidate Profile

To be considered, you must be a Registered Social Worker with Social Work England, possessing experience in statutory social work with children and families. You should maintain an unwavering focus on the child and be resolute in your role as a corporate parent. Demonstrating and embodying restorative practice principles is essential, as is a passion for relationship-based social work and pride in your profession.

You will have substantial experience in evidence-based practices with children and families, particularly in the corporate parenting domain, along with the expertise to effectively supervise and manage social workers and other social care professionals. Your approach should be innovative, enabling you to negotiate partnerships that benefit our children and young people.

A collaborative team player, you should also be capable of working independently to meet demanding standards and deadlines while remaining reflective and creative in supporting your social work teams to build impactful relationships with the children and families of Devon. A continuous commitment to the professional development of both your team and yourself is essential.

Benefits

In recognition of your vital contributions, we offer an array of exceptional employee benefits, including:

  • Up to £2,000 annual retention payment (£1,000 disbursed every six months).
  • Generous annual leave, with the option to purchase additional leave.
  • Complimentary onsite parking.
  • Employee Assistance Program for times when support is needed, along with various employee well-being services.
  • Promotion of a healthy work-life balance with flexible working arrangements, including remote work options.
  • Membership in the Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Discounts at over 900 national and local retailers through our benefits platform.
  • Cycle to work initiative.
  • Electric Vehicle salary sacrifice program.

If you are considering relocating to Devon, we offer a generous relocation allowance, subject to qualifying conditions. This is an opportune moment to make the move.
