About the Position:

This SEN Teaching Assistant role is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the life of a pupil with Autism and SEMH at a Primary School in Durham. As a dedicated and caring member of our staff, you will provide essential support to the pupil and contribute to the school's mission to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Plan and Deliver IEPs: Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement IEPs tailored to the needs of the child.
  • One-on-One Support and Interventions: Provide individualized support and interventions to students with special educational needs (SEN).
  • Behaviour Management and Intervention: Develop and implement behaviour management strategies to support the pupil and promote positive relationships.
  • Social Skills and Independence: Support students in developing essential life skills, including social skills, independence, and self-confidence.
  • Progress Monitoring and Recording: Monitor and record student progress, providing constructive feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Student Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of students during breaks, lunchtime, and on excursions.
  • Continuous Professional Development: Engage in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance your practice and stay up-to-date with best practices in SEN support.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Essential Experience: Previous experience working with children with Autism and Challenging Behaviour.
  • Desirable Qualifications: A relevant qualification in Special Education Needs or Child Development.
  • Key Skills: Strong understanding of the needs and challenges faced by children with SEN, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs.

Working Hours and Salary:

The role is full-time, Monday to Friday 8.30 - 3.30pm. Specific hours to be discussed during the interview process. The estimated salary for this role is £25,000 - £30,000 per annum, depending on experience.
