Housing Enforcement Officer
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Housing Enforcement Officer to join our team at West Northamptonshire Council. As a key member of our Private Sector Housing team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that the private rented sector provides safe and sustainable accommodation for residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake inspections of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) using the Housing Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS) to identify disrepair, non-compliance with local and statutory requirements, and breaches of management standards.
- Collaborate with partners such as the Police, Fire and Rescue, Immigration, and HMRC to safeguard residents and ensure safe accommodation.
- Prepare enforcement cases for the First Tier Tribunal or Magistrates Court.
- Work across the Private Sector housing functions to ensure compliance with local and statutory requirements.
Requirements:
- A degree in Environmental Health or related subject, or significant experience in Private Sector Housing regulation.
- Knowledge of the Housing Act 2004, HHSRS, and local authorities' regulatory and enforcement powers regarding HMOs and private sector housing conditions.
- Significant experience in applying the Housing Act 2004, including preparing enforcement cases for the First Tier Tribunal or Magistrates Court.
What We Offer:
- Hybrid-working arrangement with 2 days working from home and 3 days out across West Northants for inspections.
- A UK driving license and access to a vehicle are essential.
